In the tourist hot spot of the Texas Big Bend, some raise concerns about taxes used to promote even more tourism.

With its sunshine and turquoise waters, Greece draws travelers worldwide. Now the government is promoting lesser-known islands.

Some businesses are rebounding after historic flooding in the region. But others are still struggling.

Manu Powers, who co-owns boat and snorkel tour company Sea Quest Hawaii, said their gas bill recently hit five figures for the first time.

"To keep our great team, we have raised our wages significantly," said Kristin Thalheimer Bingham, co-owner of Dean's Sweets in Portland, Maine.

A historic drought and massive wildfire have hurt the outdoor tourism industry in the Southwest United States.

"Within the next two-to-five-year span [...] we want to be a full-on bed and breakfast," said Tianna Yellowhair, co-owner of Tatanka Rez Tourz.

"What does tourism do for this community? Has tourism contributed to a loss of biodiversity? These are questions that a tourist can ask irrespective of their budget," said sustainable travel consultant Judy Kepher-Gona.

"We feel super rich," one visiting couple said.

The winter games will be a net loss for China — at least economically.
