A look at the child care crisis

Heard on:
HAMBURG, GERMANY - AUGUST 1: Children play at the TDKG Turkish-German Kindergarten on the day a new law guaranteeing families nationwide access to child day care went into effect on August 1, 2013 in Hamburg, Germany. The new law guarantees a spot in a day care center for one and two-year old children and also entitles parents of children of the same age who prefer to take care of their young children at home, to a cash care benefit. Critics believe that in too many city districts child day care capacity is still insufficient and that care benefit (Betreuungsgeld) impedes the integration of non-German-speaking children.
