We’re getting some more details about Apple’s impending foray into TVs, thanks to Wall Street Journal’s beloved source, People Familiar With The Matter, or PFTWTM* for short. The Journal says Apple has been meeting with various media companies to outline its televisions strategies. There’s talk of motion control and (presumably Siri-based) voice command, although I think that would be weird to just be talking to yourself in an empty room.
Apple executives have given some specifics in its talks with media companies. The company, for example, has discussed new ways they could stream media companies' content, allowing a user to watch a video on a TV set, then pick up another device, such as a smartphone, and keep watching the video on the move, one of the people familiar said.
It’s worth noting that this is being leaked to the Journal, which some in the tech journalism community point to as being the official controlled leak outlet for Apple.
As for this all being revelatory information, imagine if soccer became more popular in the United States than baseball. It would be an interesting development but you wouldn’t be surprised. After all, people have been forecasting that would happen since at least the seventies since it’s the most popular sport around the world and millions of kids play it so it stands to reason that they’d stay interested later in life. It would be a development you saw coming a mile away. Apple’s TV is soccer.
