Verizon blocks Google Wallet app

John Moe Dec 6, 2011

Verizon is not including the Google Wallet app as a pre-installed feature for the Galaxy Nexus when the phone arrives in the next week or so. Not only that, it will block the installation of Google Wallet if you try to put it on there. This despite the Galaxy Nexus coming pre-installed with an NFC (near field communication) chip that allows the whole phone-based payment system to work.

Why? ISIS. Not the Egyptian goddess, though that would be awesome, ISIS is the impending payment system being introduced by Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile sometime next year. Verizon is playing hardball here and it could be a pretty big blow to Google if the Galaxy Nexus is as great as everyone says and becomes a major competitor to the iPhone. The Galaxy Nexus is the first Android phone to run on the new Ice Cream Sandwich operating system so a lot of people are eager to get a hold of it.
