Apple runs out of iPads for Friday delivery

John Moe Mar 12, 2012

If you want the new iPad, you’re going to have to wait. The plan was to take pre-orders from the time of last week’s announcement and then deliver the relatively nameless device on Friday of this week. Well, too bad. They ran out. Now, delivery will be on a kind of sliding scale and the later you pre-order, the later you’ll get them. Or you could be one of those people who line up outside the store on Friday, which is either fun or depressing, depending on your perspective on such things as consumerism, Apple devotion, or, I don’t know, flash mobs?

This same thing happened with the last two iPads, back in the era when iPads had names. The cynic’s take is that Apple is holding back supply to make this like, you know, Tickle Me Elmo or something. But I expect it’s just Apple. People want these things.
