Big Nook Color update

John Moe Dec 12, 2011

I was at a Barnes & Noble over the weekend. The stores have become gigantic infomercials for the Nook. Which is kind of weird in a physical store. It’s like getting on a ship and they make a big deal of the life rafts. Anyway, they were saying that SOON the Nook Color would be able to run Netflix. That seemed odd to me. Christmas is almost here and a big selling point is unavailable? Well, now they’re rectifying that. This morning, B&N announced an update to Nook Color to run Netflix, Flixster, and comic books.

Netflix is Netflix and there are a bunch of places to watch it but there’s an interesting e-reader subplot going on with comics lately. Amazon and B&N are both trying to appeal to the fastidious comics geeks.

From TechCrunch:

The Nook Comics app opens access to what B&N is calling “the largest collection of Marvel graphic novels” and thanks to the Nook Color’s color screen, these comics are displayed in full color. The PagePerfect Nook Books gives publishes a bit more control over how content is displayed on the Nook Color’s 7-inch screen. The new category of Nook books are “carefully crafted” to maintain the “precision and beauty” traditionally associated with their print counterparts. This media type first debuted with the Nook Tablet and is now available on the older Nook Color.
