Spring has sprung forward, and here we are for another week. Here are some need-to-know numbers for Monday.
With the candidates gearing up for the next slew of delegates up for grabs, the economy is on many voters’ minds. And by many macroeconomic indicators, we as a country are doing much better than we were a couple months ago — the U.S. has been averaging 250,000 new jobs a month since the fall. But how people feel about their individual finances is a different story. Respondents to the Marketplace Anxiety Index — a trackable number derived from our Edison Poll questions — say their worries about their economic situation have remained relatively the same since the last time we checked in. In fact, as many as 30 percent of respondents admitted to losing sleep over their finances.
One man having no issues with his finances: Alexander Hamilton. OK, well actually, the musical about him is having no issues with its finances. Just this past week, the Broadway hit “Hamilton” took in $1,758,555, according to Playbill.com. And on Monday, the cast of the show headed to the White House to perform by invitation from First Lady Michelle Obama. The visit will include a student workshop and Q&A, as well as performances from the musical.
And just across the sea, our friends in the UK could be seeing a change in advertisements played during streaming content — The Committee of Advertising Practice may soon ban ads for foods high in fat and sugar from being shown during programming meant for children under the age of 16. A similar ban already exists for television, but not for online content. As the BBC writes, this could affect YouTube videos and shows found on ITV Hub.
