2006: One Laptop Per Child.

Starting in 2006, a Miami-based non-profit took on the mission to build a durable, low-cost laptop that could be used by kids across the world.  Since then, more than 2 million have been purchased.  However, while the original goal was to get the cost down to approximately $100, the cost is reportedly still above $200 per laptop.
