Get ready for “visual status updates”

John Moe Dec 2, 2011

Here’s one of those stories about something that will soon become all the rage or you’ll never hear about it again. I’ve given up trying to predict what will catch on. Hurts my head.

But a lot of venture capital investors are excited about a company called Color, which is offering an app to make what they call visual status updates for Facebook. With the app, you shoot a video of no more than 30 seconds on your phone and then you can invite whichever Facebook friends you want to see it, or just default to all. They can choose to get notifications if they have the app as well or they can see it on your Facebook page as a short video embedded in your news feed. Here’s an interesting wrinkle: no sound. So it’s not quite like a video, its more of, like, one of those pictures in Harry Potter where people are still moving around even though it’s a still photo.
