Facebook spammer turns himself in. Like!

This is the guy who allegedly hacked into 500,000 Facebook accounts. Sanford Wallace surrendered to the FBI in California. He developed a program that circumvented Facebook spam and privacy filters. The program would post messages on users’ walls that appeared to be from their friends. The messages urge the user to visit a particular website and once there, the data harvesting begins. Classic phishing scam, of course, but likely a much higher rate of return given that the message appears to originate from a trusted source. Wallace faces up to 10 years in jail but he posted bail with money he stole from people.

If you’re a member of your local public radio station, we thank you — because your support helps those stations keep programs like Marketplace on the air.  But for Marketplace to continue to grow, we need additional investment from those who care most about what we do: superfans like you.

Your donation — as little as $5 — helps us create more content that matters to you and your community, and to reach more people where they are – whether that’s radio, podcasts or online.

When you contribute directly to Marketplace, you become a partner in that mission: someone who understands that when we all get smarter, everybody wins.
