Isis coming to Salt Lake City

John Moe Apr 6, 2011

Not the Egyptian goddess. Sadly. Isis is the massive joint venture between AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, and a bunch of financial institutions to let you pay for stuff using just your phone. The industry term is NFC, which stands for near field communications. It was announced this morning that Salt Lake City will be the testing ground for this technology when it debuts next year. Salt Lake City: the Kansas City, Kansas of NFC! No disrespect to the home of the Tabernacle Choir and the basketball career of John Stockton but Salt Lake City instead of somewhere more wired like San Francisco or Seattle or Austin? That might be the point. SLC is a little more average and might give the Isismasters a better chance to try out the product before taking it big.
