For Marketplace Morning Report, Thursday, September 9, 2010

A handful of stories centering on the letter C in today's show. Competition -- The U.S. has slipped to fourth place in a competitiveness survey from the World Economic Forum. China -- The U.S. Steelworkers plan to file a complaint with the Obama administration, demanding investigation into China's clean tech policies; and we speak with Bloomberg BusinessWeek editor Josh Tyrangiel about conditions at a Foxconn factory, which garnered major attention for a rash of worker suicides earlier this year. Costs -- A new government study says, initially, the health care overhaul won't cost much more than we're spending now. We also covered these stories: Is there a bubble in the bond market, nonprofits hire more than for-profits, Goldman Sachs is being fined by U.K. regulators, the trade deficit for July fell from the month before by nearly $7 billion, Ireland plans to split up a failed bank, and troubles in the housing market are hurting architects. Cya tomorrow. Here's the songs we played:

  • Looking Good -- The Hard to Get
  • Something About Us -- Daft PunkBuy
  • Phantom Broadcast (War Child) -- The Go! TeamBuy
  • Transistor -- RadianBuy
  • Westworld -- JapancakesBuy
