Amazon just changed retail

Here's what Amazon is doing. Here's the top line. It's taking all of its entertainment content and making it available through one device. The Fire. All Amazon books. All Amazon movies. All Amazon music. All Amazon apps. It all gets pumped through the Fire. Not even necessarily ON the Fire since it has FREE cloud storage and it DOESN'T MATTER how much space you have. The Fire is a conduit, a portal. Retail changed this morning.

Kindle Fire: $199. Fire will have free cloud storage. Delete something from the device but then want it back? No sweat, it's all saved in the cloud.

Also, 30 days of free Amazon Prime, which it's hoping will get people hooked on the streaming video service and buy a bunch of stuff for the holidays (Prime gives you free shipping). The Fire adds a new browser called Silk, which apparently backs up to the cloud as well. I'm curious to see if that's a rebranding of Chrome since there's Android deep below the surface of this thing or if Amazon really did build a browser from scratch. If so: why?
