Top 10 reasons why Marketplace trumps Wait, Wait … Don’t Tell Me!

This past Monday, Southern California Public Radio (KPCC), created a March Madness bracket to finally determine the top dog of the public radio world. After a strong win over Writer’s Almanac, Marketplace advanced to the second round, this time facing off against perhaps the noblest of contenders, Wait, Wait … Don’t Tell Me!

In an act of good sportsmanship, Marketplace host Kai Ryssdal invited Peter Sagal, his counterpart at the NPR quiz show, to join him on air in a pre-game assesment of the competition.

But trash-talking quickly commenced…

“I’m just saying I got back-up,” said Sagal. “I have the Kasell … he was dominating public radio when you were in short pants, my little friend.”

If you still aren’t swayed, though, to help make your voting even easier, dear Listener, we at Marketplace assembled the Top 10 reasons why Marketplace trumps Wait, Wait … Don’t Tell Me!

Let’s do the numbers:

1. We don’t make you wait, we just tell you.

2. We ask celebrity guests about stuff they do know.

3. Sound quality at the Frank Stanton Studios in Los Angeles is better than at the Chase Bank Auditorium in Downtown Chicago.

4. We’d be funnier if we had a week to write our show, too.

5. We’re there for you morning, noon, and night, they make you wait, wait for the weekend.

6. Our Monday blog posts won’t give your eyes heartburn.

7. Financial literacy: The gift that keeps on giving. Stupid criminal stories? Not so much.

8. In the cut-throat competition to lure radio’s most talented personalities, Marketplace won the best intern.

9. News flash: No one has a home answering machine anymore.

10. Peter Segal v. Kai Ryssdal. A picture is worth a thousand unbroadcasted words.
