I don’t know if you guys have heard much about this but apparently there is something of a scandal involving the Rupert Murdoch media empire and phone hacking. Although the charges are centered on newspapers in England, there are renewed calls to do something about the situation here in the colonies. Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D-W.Va.) has sent a STRONGLY WORDED LETTER.

Says Politico:

Lord Justice Brian Leveson, the official leading a British inquiry, in a letter Wednesday “whether any of the evidence” Leveson is reviewing “suggests that these unethical and sometimes illegal business practices occurred in the United States or involved U.S. citizens.”

Meanwhile, a press watchdog group took another approach:

Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington asked the FCC to revoke the 27 broadcast licenses News Corp., News International’s parent company, holds in the United States. CREW alleges that News Corp. Chairman Rupert Murdoch’s “character deficiencies may warrant disqualification from holding a license.”
Now, how much of this is about legit concern over privacy and how much has to do with Murdoch’s conservative politics and the power of Fox News, I can’t say.
