New Facebook app rats out other apps on privacy

John Moe Apr 23, 2012

A new option for those who use Facebook and are concerned about privacy. Privacyscore is a new app on Facebook that says it will give you the privacy ratings on other apps so you can know just how nosy an app is before choosing to install it. You enter the name of an app and you get a rating from 0 to 100, 100 being the most private. An app will get points for things like not sharing data with other vendors, deleting data when you drop the account, anonymizing the user, that kind of thing. It’s not groundbreaking research but it is a handy dashboard. Some of the big names actually did pretty well in my unscientific test, Farmville scoring an 87, Words With Friends landing a 79. Curiously, when I searched on Privacyscore itself, it had no data. I see.
