There is a lot riding on the Lumia 900, the new phone from Nokia. Like, for instance, the existence of Nokia and, arguably, the future of Windows Phone, the platform the phone is built for. And if those things are at stake, then the future of a world where we have choices other than Apple or Android is also at stake. And thus, CIVILIZATION ITSELF. Whoops, hyperbole.
To market the $99 phone, Nokia is launching a campaign called “The Smartphone Beta Test”, which shows fake footage of executives from Google or Apple brushing off criticisms of screens not being visible outdoors, fragile phones that break easy, and the notorious iPhone “death grip” that shuts off the signal. The ads are clever. They also don’t mention the Lumia anywhere in the campaign. So, uh, good luck with that, Nokia.
