This final note today, which comes with the disclosure that on the way home tonight I’m going to spend $5 on the very, very slim chance that it’ll change my life.

The Mega Millions lottery drawing for tomorrow night is — as you might have heard by now — somewhere north of $500 million. The odds of me or you or anybody actually winning 176 million to one.

So just as a reality check, herewith a list of things more likely to happen to you:

Dating a supermodel: 88,000 to 1.

Being struck by lightning: 576,000 to 1.
