What have you always wondered about the economy? Tell us
Final Note

What are your chances of winning the lottery this week?

Kai Ryssdal Mar 29, 2012

This final note today, which comes with the disclosure that on the way home tonight I’m going to spend $5 on the very, very slim chance that it’ll change my life.

The Mega Millions lottery drawing for tomorrow night is — as you might have heard by now — somewhere north of $500 million. The odds of me or you or anybody actually winning 176 million to one.

So just as a reality check, herewith a list of things more likely to happen to you:

Dating a supermodel: 88,000 to 1.

Being struck by lightning: 576,000 to 1.

Still, I’m playin’.
