The Stop Online Piracy Bill was the subject of a hearing in Congress yesterday, and the Googs, along with Facebook, AOL, eBay, Twitter, and a bunch of other tech hot shots, took out a full-page ad in the New York Times begging for a revision. As we've been discussing on the show for the past couple days, these Internet giants are against the possibilities of wide-sweeping bans on URLs that may or may not be involved in copyright infringement. Backers of the Bill include the aforementioned House Judiciary Committee and the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), as well as the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA). The Washington Post quotes the MPAA's Michael O'Leary as saying, "Over 2 million Americans across all 50 states earn a living and support their families in jobs connected to the making of motion pictures and television shows. They deserve better than to see their work stolen out from under them by criminals out to make a profit."
