Auto sales report for August: U.S. up, Japan down

Kai Ryssdal Sep 1, 2011

This final note today. It being the first of the month, here’s your Detroit-versus-the-world update.

Major carmakers announced August sales today. Really really nice, actually. General Motors, Chrysler, Ford all had double digit sales increases over August of ’09.

Japanese auto companies are still feeling the aftereffects of the earthquake earlier this year. Honda, Toyota and Subaru lost ground.
