Telecomix is a hacker collective, but instead of breaking into sites to reveal usernames and passwords, ala LulzSec, they're setting up networks for people in warring countries to spread the word. Take Syria, for example: this is a recent Telecomix tweet "ATTENTION PEOPLE OF #SYRIA -- Let the world know! Here is how! Dial up access for #Syria: +46850009990 +492317299993 +4953160941030 user:telecomix password:telecomix." They're also engaging people in low tech activities like flyering and handing out the recipe for wheat paste (the glue that people use to stick posters up on buildings). Peter Fein, a Telecomix member, describes the group's aesthetic as being "about attuning the tools the organisation develops to the needs of people who are deprived of telecommunications, and information on the ground is the ultimate goal.
