Two million iPads have been sold in 60 days. It's a computer, it's a TV and movie player, and Apple wants to make sure you know that it's also a book reader. To emphasize that notion, each iPad comes with an e-book version of Winnie-the-Pooh. Meanwhile, Amazon may release a new version of the Kindle electronic book reader this summer. Slimmer, lighter, still in black and white.

But Kindle uses one kind of format for electronic books. iPad uses another. And at a big trade show for publishers last weekend, there was a call for a universal standard format for electronic books.

For insight on the future of books, we speak with author Susan Orlean (The Orchid Thief), publishing consultant Mike Shatzkin, and Bob Stein, the founder and co-director of the Institute for the Future of the Book.
