Paper or plastic?

This final note today: Some solace the next time you get stuck behind somebody paying by check in the grocery store. Yes, Mom, I'm talking to you. The Federal Reserve said today checks now account for less than a quarter of all transactions. Plastic's the big gainer -- debit cards, mostly, not credit cards.

Aloha Kai from Kaua'i,
I think that you are the best Marketplace host ever, have been listening for many years, and try to listen to your show every day - 6:00PM here on Kaua'i. You have a friendly demeanor and insightful, and varied, subjects and interviews. Thank you. But, you know there had to be a but, enough with the dissing of checks. In our super fast paced world, where often little thought is given to actions, the writing of a check forces one to slow down and think about what one is paying for. And, at the end of the month, one has to reconcile one's checkbook balance. Another reality check.
