Inside the "tariff whirlpool" with a brokerage manager

“Unprecedented is just too weak a word for this,” said Gretchen Blough, a customs brokerage manager at Logistics Plus.

The U.S. is in the midst of a tariff whirlpool as some tariffs come to an end while others take the stage. In particular, the Section 122 tariffs that the Trump administration put in place after his previous IEEPA tariffs were struck down by the Supreme Court are set to expire on Friday.

Meanwhile, as of earlier this week, the White House announced new 50% tariffs on $20 billion worth of Canadian goods imposed under Section 338 of the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act.

So, if there’s one job that’s in high demand right now, it’s probably Gretchen Blough’s. She’s a customs brokerage manager at Logistics Plus in Erie, Pennsylvania. Blough joined “Marketplace” host Kai Ryssdal to talk about what she’s hearing from importers these days and how she’s handling the ever-changing tide of tariff policy.
