Audio Everywhere: The future of radio in the digital age

Twenty years ago, there was one word to represent spoken-word news: Radio. The format was synonymous with the device you used to listen.

But the Internet has given way to a new lexicon that includes words like “streaming” and “Podcast” and “on-demand.” And cheap and accessible tools for recording, editing, and distributing audio have enabled anyone with something to say to potentially reach millions with their message.

To illustrate this titanic shift in the way we gather and listen to audio, we’re trying an experiment this week in Atlanta at the 2013 Online News Association Conference to go along with our presentation, “Audio Everywhere: The future of Radio.” We want to create an audio podcast with your voices and attempt to answers one big question: In 5 years, what role will audio play in your life as a news consumer or journalist?

YOUR ASSIGNMENT
Use the audio record button below to submit an audio clip with an answer. And if you can’t answer the question yourself, ask around and interview someone who can.

Start out by introducing yourself; listeners will want to know who you are. Then answer the question. It will help us make better radio if you begin your answer by rephrasing the question.
