When you can sell a house more easily you can go in search of a new job more easily. Domestic migration, when you move from one place in the country to another, plunged in the aftermath of the 2008 financial crisis. Now things are looking up. Existing home sales at their highest level since 2009. The latest monthly data on new home sales comes out this morning.

Marketplace economics correspondent Chris Farrell joins Morning Report host David Brancaccio to discuss why people are moving, where they are going, and what it means for the economy.

Marketplace is on a mission.

We believe Main Street matters as much as Wall Street, economic news is made relevant and real through human stories, and a touch of humor helps enliven topics you might typically find…well, dull.

Through the signature style that only Marketplace can deliver, we’re on a mission to raise the economic intelligence of the country—but we don’t do it alone. We count on listeners and readers like you to keep this public service free and accessible to all. Will you become a partner in our mission today?
