The president’s address yesterday has by now been thoroughly dissected — language, tone and content.

So on to other matters — like what everyone was wearing. Fair or unfair, the inaugural style choices of the Obama women get the most attention. And that might trickle down to the market.

Eleven-year-old Sasha wore a purple Kate Spade coat and 14-year-old Malia wore a JCrew one, and today it got everyone talking. And believe or not, yes, the world pays attention to what an 11-year-old wears, says fashion writer Kate Betts.

“Every political image is thought about and I think especially in these big moments when the whole world is watching,” says  says. “And I think — I hope —  [Mrs. Obama’s] thinking about the fashion business because it gives the American fashion business such a big boost.”

Betts says that the JCrew belt Mrs. Obama wore yesterday sold out today. She expects the same sales boost to happen at JCrew and Kate Spade where the girls coats were sold.

And the First Lady’s red inaugural gown designed by Jason Wu? Today, Betts says she was was informed of a $100 knock-off that was now available for sale.
