Final Note

A trillion YouTube views in 2011

Kai Ryssdal Dec 20, 2011

This final note today — which I believe qualifies as this week’s sign the apocalypse is upon us.

My colleague John Moe noted this morning that we — collectively — watched a trillion YouTube videos this year. One trillion. That’s 140 videos for every person on the planet — if all of us actually watched videos.

But here’s the thing.  Of those thousand billion videos, this one — this one — was the most watched:

Rebecca Black. “Friday.”

I’m a little embarrased for us, actually.

Marketplace is on a mission.

We believe Main Street matters as much as Wall Street, economic news is made relevant and real through human stories, and a touch of humor helps enliven topics you might typically find…well, dull.

Through the signature style that only Marketplace can deliver, we’re on a mission to raise the economic intelligence of the country—but we don’t do it alone. We count on listeners and readers like you to keep this public service free and accessible to all. Will you become a partner in our mission today?
