Obama goes bigger on social media

John Moe Jun 20, 2011

The 2012 presidential election will be fought in the trenches of social media and the Obama re-election campaign is going big and hard already. The President’s Facebook and Twitter pages are going to be run by the campaign from now through the election. The most interesting wrinkle here is that Obama will apparently be tweeting himself, marking each personally written tweet with “-BO” at the end (bringing his potential character count down to 137). Will he actually do it? It’s easy to sign up for Twitter but most people stop updating after a while. And how will we know the tweets aren’t actually written by his dog Bo? The 2008 campaign used social media to spread news about Obama events but didn’t contain a lot of real interaction. We’ll see what it does here.
