Citigroup the latest to be hacked

John Moe Jun 9, 2011

I wonder if there’s a big wheel somewhere that the hackers spin and whoever it lands on is the one to get hacked. One day it’ll be Hostess snack foods, another day maybe the Arena Football league. Today brings news of Citigroup being hit and around 200,000 accounts being compromised. The hack exposed names, contact information, and credit card numbers. Not exposed, apparently, were social security numbers or the 3-digit code on the backs of the cards. The attack took place in early May but is just now coming to light. “We are contacting customers whose information was impacted. Citi has implemented enhanced procedures to prevent a recurrence of this type of event,” said a Citi spokesperson. It’s likely that the upshot of this will be more scam attempts against those affected.
