New Flaming Lips song is complicated

John Moe Feb 15, 2011

That’s because the band has released it as twelve separate YouTube videos, which all must be played at the same time in order to hear the song. They’ve done stuff like this before, using multiple car stereos or boom boxes to create a sort of interactive symphony. In this case the elements form a song called “Two Blobs F*cking” with layer #9 being a spoken word track of a story:

The tale recounts a dark sci-fi (or drug-induced) exploration of a building foreman’s office and concludes in a bizarre discovery that gives the song its jolting name. Occasionally the narrator’s tone is subtly altered; the shifts imply he’s not completely human.

Here’s a video of how to play the song.

Marketplace is on a mission.

We believe Main Street matters as much as Wall Street, economic news is made relevant and real through human stories, and a touch of humor helps enliven topics you might typically find…well, dull.

Through the signature style that only Marketplace can deliver, we’re on a mission to raise the economic intelligence of the country—but we don’t do it alone. We count on listeners and readers like you to keep this public service free and accessible to all. Will you become a partner in our mission today?
