Girl Scouts accept mobile payments

We’ve been talking about the future of payments being mobile payments. A while back, we told you about how the Obama and Romney campaigns are using Square, a system that lets you make donations through a mobile phone.

Now, those insidious Girl Scouts are in on it too. A test program uses a similar system to let 32 troops in 23 states swipe a card on a parent’s smartphone or a troop leader’s smartphone or, this is 2012, their own smartphone to process payments for Thin Mints or Tagalongs or any of those other insidious snacks. There’s no escape from the Girls now. You can’t say, “oh, I don’t have cash on me” or “I don’t have my checkbook”. Next stop: retina scans.
