For Marketplace Morning Report, Thursday, October 28, 2010

This week on Marketplace we'll be following sustainable jobs. Today, we learned about a job that's near and dear the heart of us here at Marketplace: reporting.

In a new Marketplace Web Extra, AutoNation's CEO says that auto industry new car sales are on track to reach 11.5 million units this year.

Also in auto updates, recalls are back in the news. This time Nissan has recalled 2 million vehicles because of trouble with the ignition.

In transportation news-at-large, Andrea Gardner reports on high speed trains. Will they really work?

Here's some good news. Last week, the number of new people filing for unemployment benefits dropped by about 21,000.

Wells Fargo was today's bank de jour, announcing that the nation's fourth largest bank plans to re-file paperwork for 55,000 foreclosures.

Just when you though the housing market couldn't get any worse, it has. A report from the foreclosure listing firm RealtyTrac says foreclosure activity is up sharply in places like Chicago and Seattle.

The movie-renting landscape has changed drastically in the last decade, from Blockbuster to Netflix and now Redbox. Now libraries are jumping into the movie renting market, and trying to compete with modern companies.

And finally, U.S. News and World Report released its list of the top five meanest airlines. Check out our slideshow!
