MIDDAY UPDATE: Chinese TV ads, debt control and Starbucks app

President Obama welcomes Chinese President Hu Jintao to the U.S. this week for a state visit. President Hu also will meet with key U.S. corporate leaders to negotiate relationships between the U.S. and China. And Americans soon will see Chinese celebrities such as NBA’s Yao Ming in TV ads aimed at improving China’s image in the U.S.

Jeremy Hobson spoke with Los Angeles Times consumer columnist David Lazarus about how to prioritize and pay down personal debts. Lazarus discussed the pitfalls of Equifax’s new debt-prioritizing tool, Debt Wise, and his personal method of debt control.
