For Marketplace, Thursday, December 2, 2010

On today’s show, we took the rumors of the Groupon sale to Google for $6 billion and the valuation of other new e-companies and wondered if we were in the middle of a tech bubble. Kai spoke to U.K. ambassador Sir Nigel Rheinwald about the U.K.’s role in the European debt crisis. The emergency bailout in the U.S. saved a lot of companies, the new documents from the Federal Reserve shows, but will it encourage others to take risks? The SEC is tackling the debate over conflict minerals used in products like laptops. Paper checks seem to be on the way out, as is shopping for deals in brick-and-mortar stores (people are choosing online instead). And we take another look at how individuals and cities are doing about climate change. As for the songs we played:

  • Mean Mr. Mustard – The Beatles
  • Big in Japan – AlphavilleBuy
  • Jump Into My Mouth and Breathe The Stardust – Black Moth Super RainbowBuy
  • The Chase – London Funk Allstars
