Tell us: What was your last fight over money about?

Margaret Aery May 28, 2013

Do you dread sharing grocery bills and credit card statements with your spouse? Do you cringe at the idea of asking your parents for money? Do you and your friends avoid discussing finances at any cost?

At Marketplace Money, we know personal finances can be a sensitive subject: We’ve heard that people find it easier to talk about sex than money.

But while Americans might not talk about money much, they sure do fight about it: it’s one of the biggest causes of relationship strife and marital breakdown. According to a recent survey by the American Institute of CPAs, cohabitating couples quarrel over finances an average three time a month.

It isn’t just the romantically involved, though.

We’ve heard from listeners who bicker with kids about smart phone payments and friends who argue over dinner tabs.

Now, we want to hear from you.

So tell us:

There’s a lot happening in the world.  Through it all, Marketplace is here for you.

You rely on Marketplace to break down the world’s events and tell you how it affects you in a fact-based, approachable way. We rely on your financial support to keep making that possible.

Your donation today powers the independent journalism that you rely on. For just $5/month, you can help sustain Marketplace so we can keep reporting on the things that matter to you.
