Kodak files for Chapter 11

John Moe Jan 19, 2012

While yesterday was a pretty good day to be an anti-SOPA campaigner, it wasn’t such a hot day to be a company that built an empire on a swiftly dying technology. Talking about Kodak here, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. That doesn’t mean the company is shutting down, it just means it’s broke. But it’s hard to imagine how it really could reinvent itself in any kind of significant way since it was all about film. A glance at Kodak.com reveals the company is trying to push low-end cameras and video cameras but a lot of people use their phones for those quick party pics. Kodak is also selling printers (oy), digital picture frames (ouch), and do-it-yourself photo books (yeesh).
