For Marketplace, Wednesday, October 19, 2011

On today’s show, we looked at the effects of the European debt crisis — from Portugal’s decision to halt construction on its high-speed railway to Spain, to a pharmacy-turned-counseling-center in Rome. Greeks took to the streets in Athens to protest austerity measures.

Meanwhile in the U.S., there are concerns that the Occupy Wall Street protests will become more personal and pointed toward bankers. Social Security benefits are getting a boost, while steel prices are sinking. And commentator Robert Reich talked about David Frum’s departure as a regular Marketplace commentator. Here are the songs we played:

  • Set Yourself on Fire – StarsBuy
  • Find A Way – The Juan MacleanBuy
  • Harvest Moon – Pepper Rabbit
  • Raízes – Amalia RodriguesBuy
  • Sometimes – Beach FossilsBuy
