Let’s see what Reed Hastings has to say about this
Back in April, Dish Network won an auction to buy Blockbuster for a sweet $320 million. And, as if Netflix didn’t have any other fires to put out, on Friday Dish will debut its streaming movie service.
Some things to look for:
Will it be named after Blockbuster? Because…really? A brand that is now synonymous with vacant storefronts?
Blockbuster already has a DVD by mail and streaming service so this could be a dramatic upgrading of that. Otherwise it’s kind of weird to launch something that already, you know, exists.
What will the selection be? People complain about Netflix’s streaming selection all the time. Could this be better and really give Red Envelope a run for its money? And if so, why has Blockbuster never been able to do that before?
