The Punchline

Oops…Miami Herald Macy’s ad congratulates Heat on being ‘NBA champions’

And now, from the Marketplace “Dewey Defeats Truman” Mistaken Headline Desk, we bring you “Congratulations Miami!”

The Miami Herald ran a nearly-full page ad for Macy’s in Monday’s paper, announcing that Miami Heat “championship” t-shirts and hats were going on sale.

This is the closest LeBron James and the Heat will get to a championship title this season.

Miami lost Game 6 of the NBA finals, and the series, to the Dallas Mavericks Sunday night.

It’s a common business practice for print publications to have two display ads ready to go after championship events. But usually, someone double checks the scores before the paper goes to print.

If you’re a member of your local public radio station, we thank you — because your support helps those stations keep programs like Marketplace on the air.  But for Marketplace to continue to grow, we need additional investment from those who care most about what we do: superfans like you.

Your donation — as little as $5 — helps us create more content that matters to you and your community, and to reach more people where they are – whether that’s radio, podcasts or online.

When you contribute directly to Marketplace, you become a partner in that mission: someone who understands that when we all get smarter, everybody wins.
