For Marketplace, Wednesday, January 5, 2011

The Consumer Electronics Show is set to kick off in Las Vegas tomorrow, and everyone’s talking about the big no-show: Steve Jobs and Apple. But their competitors will be there, and with their new gadgets. Marketplace will be reporting from the front lines. Meanwhile, co-creator of NBC’s “Parks and Recreation” weighed in with his thoughts on comedy on TV at 10 p.m. The 112th Congress was sworn in today, but will Republicans deliver on their campaign promises? The SEC is looking into the Goldman Sachs-Facebook deal, and whether it breaks rules that a private company can’t have more than 500 shareholders. Like Facebook’s private stock popularity, the price of gasoline is rising higher and higher, and Kai spoke to oil analyst Tom Kloza about oil’s future. We also had stories about job industries abroad, in Germany and in Mexico. And here are the songs we played:

Marketplace is on a mission.

We believe Main Street matters as much as Wall Street, economic news is made relevant and real through human stories, and a touch of humor helps enliven topics you might typically find…well, dull.

Through the signature style that only Marketplace can deliver, we’re on a mission to raise the economic intelligence of the country—but we don’t do it alone. We count on listeners and readers like you to keep this public service free and accessible to all. Will you become a partner in our mission today?
