Kinect for PC

John Moe Jan 4, 2011

Asus has licensed Kinect technology from Microsoft and will debut a version of Kinect to run on PCs. It’s called WAVI Xtion (catchy name, guys!) and will be available in the second quarter of 2011.

According to Asus’ statement, users will be able to browse multimedia content, access the Internet and social networks, and enjoy full body interaction “in a more user-friendly and natural living room experience.”

So…huh? A body motion interface for going on Facebook? Wha? Anyway, the story here I think is that Microsoft didn’t see much future in a non-Xbox Kinect option but was willing to license it out so that Asus could make weird stuff.
