World Bank presidential nominee as 'Dartmouth Idol'

U.S. President Barack Obama (R) shakes hands with newly announced nominee for president of the World Bank, Dartmouth College President Jim Yong Kim, March 23, 2012 in Washington, D.C.

This final note today: The downside of the slingshot to economic superstardom that Jim Yong Kim got today, when President Obama nominated the president of Dartmouth College to head the World Bank.

The voice you're about to hear will soon be one of the most influential people in development economics at a "Dartmouth Idol" contest last year. You sort of shudder to think what videos are out there of you, don't you?

This is one that has to be seen to be believed. (video above)

This is fricking awesome! This video isn't a downside -- it's just one more demonstration of how talented the man is and how he can connect with young people. If we don't consider that a plus then we need to re-evaluate our priorities in assessing public figures.

Dr. Kim is an awesome choice for this post. I'm very glad that President Obama made this choice.

Let the economists who weren't nominated have their private cry. That's their right. But they certainly don't have a right to be nominated for World Bank chief.
