Be very, very afraid

Do not be fooled, my friend. That is not a fiscal conservative you see below. I know it looks just like one. But it's not. It's a man dressed in a bad B-movie costume. And he's playing the role of... a US Senate candidate from California. Oh, the horror! The horror!

This evil demon sheep stars in a new campaign ad by former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina. She's running against Tom Campbell in a bid to unseat Barbara Boxer in California.

Like an insidious plague, the ad has gone viral. It is haunting the dreams of bloggers, twitterers, and anyone who comes in contact with them. Watch it. I dare you.

But is this nutcase -- I mean, fruit -- of American democracy the most bizarre campaign ad ever?

I think not, my friend. I think not.

It may be hard to top this attack ad from New Orleans. It's the first and I hope the only coroner's race campaign ad I will ever watch.

It must be fun being a voter in New Orleans:

For presidential ads, I believe this takes the (fruit) cake. Former Alaskan Senator Mike Gravel ran for president in 2008 with a series of ads like this one. I insist that you sit there and watch it.

Maybe I was wrong about the cake. This one made me weep inside.

God Bless America.

Thank you, Scott. I had to bite my hand to stop myself from laughing like a maniac at the office.

Demean the ad all you want.
I wouldn't imply that the 78 year old Senator Gravel is a "fruitcake."
That fruitcake saw to it that more Americans weren't needlessly sent to Vietnam and slaughtered.
What have you done lately, besides maintaining a snarky blog?

It amazes me, Harry, how consistently I see this type of response. The first component is A. the commenter suggests something that the writer did not. Then B. the commenter blames the writer for making that connection while refusing to acknowledge that it's possible to point out an action that might be strange or unusual or fruity while not attacking the person taking said action. And C. The commenter ends by making a personal attack, in attempt to demean the writer.

Such is human nature, I suppose. Thanks for pointing out the good things Mike has done. Ralph Nader has done good things too, and I even like the message in this ad, but I still think it ranks right up there on the bizarre/kooky scale, which was the subject of this post.

I liked the Carly one. Yes, the end seemed like they went crazy but they were being artsy and wanted to try to make you remember the ad. The majority of the message was, oddly enough, actual content.

If it takes them dressing up like animals to try to make real argument points, then I want more screwball ads.

Beats Swiftboat style IMO.

Are you sure that ad for Carly is not flying under a false flag or should I say "sheep skin"? It seems like it must be a dirty trick.
