Director Nora Ephron, actresses Meryl Streep, and Amy Adams arrive at the special screening of Columbia Pictures' 'Julie & Julia' held at Mann Village Theatre on July 28, 2009 in Westwood, Calif. -

We received the sad news yesterday that filmmaker and screenwriter Nora Ephron has passed away.

She left behind her a legacy of romantic comedy classics, like "Sleepless in Seattle" and "When Harry Met Sally."

She redefined the genre through her use of honesty, and made new classics out of movies that really borrowed from the past. In an age when seemingly dozens of lackluster romcoms are released each year, can the genre return to its previous glory?

Here to talk with us in today's Mid-day Extra about the rise and fall of the romantic comedy is Scott Beggs, managing editor of Film School Rejects.
