I make the podcast and broadcast “Marketplace Tech” and the weekly podcast “Make Me Smart with Kai and Molly.” I've worked in public media since the dawn of this century (which is crazy) and have produced, reported and edited all the types of radio and audio things. I served as the founding news director at New Orleans Public Radio, where I also got to host local story slams for “The Moth.”

What was your first job?

Ice cream shop.

What is something that everyone should own, no matter how much it costs?

Good headphones.

What’s something that you thought you knew but later found out you were wrong about?

That you can ever repay your mom for everything she's done for you.

What’s the favorite item in your workspace and why?

The stacks of books I don't have time to read but can't bear to part with.
