The Olympics are happening NOW

Marc Sanchez May 4, 2012

No need to wait for summer and the London 2012 Olympic Games. The Olympics of printing is already underway in Düsseldorf, Germany. Man, those printers are toned, and they have to be to compete at Drupa 2012. The event is held every four years and brings together the giants of the printing industry. Given the amount of pages I print nowadays, I’m going to guess these giants are anywhere from 3 – 7 inches tall.

The Guardian reports the big buzz is digital printing – a super-clear form of printing that doesn’t use toner or ink jets. “According to the prophets of the second digital printing revolution, this new generation of printers will be able to make the quality of the visuals we see on the printed page equal to what you can see on your tablet.” The industry spin is that people still want to read stuff on the printed page, especially things like books and newspapers. With these printers, we will supposedly be able to print out books at really fast speeds and layout personalized newspapers with just the articles we want to read. I’m totally going to read more about Drupa 2012 on my new iPad. Have a good day.
