Joshua Smith is the Principal Flutist of the Cleveland Orchestra and a featured Road Warrior in Marketplace’s ongoing series about the soundtracks to your business travels. While Smith’s career exposes him to a lifetime of music and performance, it’s nature’s music that he turns to when he’s on the road. He chose a series of rare 1987 field recordings by Bernie Krause, called “Nature,” as the soundtrack for his travels. Smith’s extended playlist includes more, easier to find, nature recordings of which he writes: “I like a lot of these especially loons, gulls and doves.”

Marketplace is on a mission.
We believe Main Street matters as much as Wall Street, economic news is made relevant and real through human stories, and a touch of humor helps enliven topics you might typically find…well, dull.
Through the signature style that only Marketplace can deliver, we’re on a mission to raise the economic intelligence of the country—but we don’t do it alone. We count on listeners and readers like you to keep this public service free and accessible to all. Will you become a partner in our mission today?
