Mexico’s on sale

Scott Jagow May 21, 2009

If you’re looking for a cheap vacation, you can hardly do better than Mexico right now. In an effort to lure back tourists, resorts and airlines are offering serious discounts. Some companies are even putting it in writing that you won’t get the Swine Flu.

From the NY Times’ Practical Traveler:

Intense cleaning efforts are under way at hotels and resorts, and hand sanitizers are on display. Some chains are even offering flu-free guarantees. Through June, Real Resorts is offering to pay the medical bills of any guest who comes down with the virus within seven days of visiting one of its resorts, as well as a free future vacation. AM Resorts is promising three free vacations over the next three years to guests who contract H1N1 while staying at its Secrets or Dreams chains.

If I was a student of probabilities, I’d say that’s a pretty good deal. On top of that, Dreams Puerto Vallarta is offering 35 percent discounts, $200 in resort credit and “two kids free.” You don’t even have to travel soon — during the hot summer months — as long as you book by June 15.

Plus, the Centers for Disease Control has lifted its ban on nonessential travel to Mexico since new cases are waning.

Heck, staying home might be more dangerous. And traveling to Mexico has to be safer and much less idiotic than going to a Swine Flu Party.
