The Code Pink protesters were at it again today. For the second time this week, they interrupted a speech on the economy. This time, the victim was National Economic Council Director Larry Summers.
Summers was speaking to the Economic Club of Washington when in walked two people carrying a pink banner that read “We want our $$$$ back!” It appeared to be the same sign protesters unfurled during a speech by Goldman Sachs CEO Lloyd Blankfein Tuesday.
Today, the protesters called Summers a “toxic mess” and demanded his resignation.
From Politico:
Tighe Barry, one of the Code Pink members involved in the disruption, said that his group will continue to disrupt speeches by leading figures in the economic crisis. “Trillions of dollars are going to Wall Street bankers,” Barry said. “This bailout is not helping the middle class. There’s nobody out there speaking for us, the little guy.”
Another protester told Summers she was “the voice of the people, sir.” Code Pink calls itself Women for Peace and has spent most of its time pushing to get American troops out of Iraq and Afghanistan. But the group is obviously branching out.
I’m assuming the security guards at these speeches are falling asleep in their chairs.
How hard is it to spot a woman dressed in all black carrying a huge pink banner?
